Those whom Jeremy Corbyn has appointed today are the frontbenchers. Those who have resigned are the frontbottoms.
There is precisely one member of the Cabinet with a constituency in the North of England, and he, David Davis, will have resigned within a year.
His constituency is barely in the North as far as many of us are concerned, anyway.
But there are 20 members of the Shadow Cabinet with constituencies north of London by any measure, including very far north indeed.
A twenty-first sits for Norwich, which apparently can be north of London or not, depending on how you measure it.
No, I don't understand that, either. But the South is a place apart.
