There are about 150 million people in Russia, and there are about 150 million ethnic Russians in the world. "Russia" is not "enigmatic" to them.
We do not yet know President Putin's precise motivation to act as he has now done in Syria. But we will. It will be plainly apparent.
Similarly, there are about 1.4 billion people in China, and there are about 1.3 billion Han Chinese in the world. "China" is not "inscrutable" to them.
These lazy lines are the stuff of hawkish propaganda. Do not fall for them.
