If Gibraltar wanted to become independent
and apply for EU membership, then no one could stop it from doing so. Spain
would veto that application itself. But that is a whole other matter.
Even if the UK left these places, Gibraltar does not have to become part of Spain, nor the Falklands part of Argentina. Gibraltar could be transferred to Morocco. China would probably be interested enough in the Falklands to be willing to pay for them.
