Funny Shaped Balls

As we all know, if you want to know who is really in charge, then find out who and what may not be criticised.

I honestly couldn't care less about rugby. But I find very telling indeed the hysterical outrage at statements of what is almost literally the bleeding obvious about it.

"A weird thing that posh people play," indeed.

Except that they are not playing.

  1. It's very much a working class game in West Yorkshire, Hull, south Lancashire and west Cumbria

    1. That's something different. And it has the feel of Andy Burnham's chips-and-gravy "Northern-ness" about it. But of that, another time.

    2. Burnham's a Liverpudlian, all they care about is football. Rugby league is a religion in several very specific areas and is generally regarded as a wholesome game loved by women and children and seen as an antidote to football.

    3. Burnham is not a Liverpudlian. He greatly annoys people on his home turf by pretending to be one for the London media.

  2. The Comment is Free thread on this is glorious, Welshman saying they couldn't imagine being injured in a tackle by a posh Englishman and posh Englishmen spewing abuse in all directions.

They remind me of George Osborne's ridiculous claim that his cut in the top rate of tax had raised £8 billion when it had really cost cost £2.4 billion.

Only £10.4 billion out, Gideon. Injured in the head playing rugby at St Paul's by any chance? How dare the plebs question you? How dare we?

    1. Things are improving since his day, though. As George Galloway tweeted today:

"I speak every year at almost all the top private schools. I draw big crowds and a lot of interest. I'm almost never invited to state schools."

    2. Just taken a look at that thread and Mr. Lindsay is doing well there tonight:

LouSmorels: "Its because Guardianistas were never very good at sport at school."

David_Lindsay: "We were too busy reading books and passing exams. Why do schools revolve around the people who don't?"
