The DUP is to field only one European candidate, in order to save the UUP's seat, and thus the UUP, which has nothing much else left.
That is quite sweet, really.
But Northern Ireland's three European seats could be filled on the Unionist-Nationalist-Other principle, with everyone having one vote in each of those three simultaneous First Past The Post elections.
The Alliance Party would always win the Other one, anyway.
Unionist and Other votes would guarantee that the SDLP always won the Nationalist one.
And Nationalist and Other votes would guarantee that the Unionist one was always won by the UUP.
Even if the UUP never, ever won anything else.
