The present Turkish state is founded on the genocide of Christians. Not only Armenians, but also Greeks, Chaldo-Assyrians, Syrians (variously Orthodox, Catholic and Oriental) and others. As surely as another "Western outpost" in the region is founded on the forced expulsion, and worse, of Latin Catholics, Melkite Catholics, Maronite Catholics, Syrian Catholics, Greek Orthodox, Armenians, Anglican, Lutherans and others. Turkey's two viable political options are secular ultranationalist militarism, and Islamism. The latter is now firmly in control.
By contrast, there are thriving Armenian and Assyrian churches in Tehran and other Iranian cities, and those communities have reserved representation in the Iranian Parliament. Not exactly the position of the Assyrians in "liberated" Iraq.
