Cleggless

"Nick [Clegg] is a conservative, his views are very similar to mine," opines Ken Clarke, whereas "Vince Cable is a social democrat".

Being a social democrat is not incompatible with being a conservative; quite the reverse, in fact. But it is incompatible with the totally unconservative position of Ken Clarke, Cameron's Chancellor in waiting if he ever gets over whatever it is that stops him from sacking Osborne, and President of the Tory Reform Group, the website of which continues to list among its Honorary Life Members one Edward McMillan-Scott.

Meanwhile, Clegg thinks that he has said something terribly important by graciously informing the whole earth that he will be declining any role as "kingmaker" in the coming hung Parliament. But who asked him, anyway? And who ever would have done?

  1. EMS is no longer listed on the TRG site. Your pointing out on ConHome, Dan Hannan and Coffee House has obviously made CCHQ call someone, probably Clarke. Well done, that man.

  2. Doesn't mean that they have removed him from Honorary Life Membership itself.
