Bad Grammar

On Straight Talk, Andrew Neil asked Eric Pickles how long he thought it would be before there were as many Old Boys of Bradford Grammar School on the Tory front bench as there are Old Etonians on it at present.

Sooner than Neil might think or Pickles be prepared to admit, I strongly suspect. Bradford Grammar School is probably still there, and it is probably still called Bradford Grammar School. But is it still in the state sector? Perhaps. Though I very, very much doubt it.

Historic town grammar schools around the country, founded by what would now be called local government and always within it until comprehensivisation, would dearly love to return to the heart of civic and community life. To bring back grammar schools would be to bring back that age-old participation.

  1. Dear David,

BGS does still exist but is now independant.

It takes about 15 seconds to find the necessary information. I confess I'd find your writing more persuasive if you put a little more effort into research and thus reduced the number of "suspects" and "doubts" in your writing.

Quality over quantity! Substance over the "style" so often used to replace in by modern politicians and thos who seek to join them.

    All the best,

    Robert
