Torture To Come?

"I was only following the legal advice at the time" sounds suspiciously like "I was only obeying orders".

Over Iraq and who knows what else, the Americans are busily granting themselves an amnesty, just as the Germans did in 1969, when (indeed, because) numerous leading and middle-ranking Nazis were still alive and at liberty.

The Demjanjuk whom they eventually persecute instead in order to assuage their own guilt may very well turn out to have been, and to be at the moment, some British squaddie.

  1. I am afraid that Torture has been around since History began.
And all nations have done it.
As a means of gaining information it seems largely counter productive but presumably is done for the sheer enjoyment.
I daresay the British did/do it too.
Admittedly Lindie England, the greatest American woman since Betsy Ross was particuarly stupid to get herself photographed.
Probaably no CIA man will ever go to jail but hillbilly women from the Apalachians are of course expendible.

  2. That's a very good point. Why her and not them? Of course, we all know the real reason why. But they could never say that. So, what would they say?
