"Obama wants to turn America into a European-style social democracy", shrieked his enemies. So the American people voted for him. Now, where is the "European-style social democracy" for which they voted?
And "Obama won't hold to the Likud line", shrieked his enemies. So the American people voted for him. Now, where is the non-holding to the Likud line for which they voted?
If he isn't delivering the latter, then what makes anyone think that he will deliver the former?
As for student union style preplanned walk-outs, grow up.

So you think Obama supporters voted for him primarily on the basis that they believed right-wing smears about him? That's an interesting claim - what evidence do you have for it?
ReplyDeleteThey weren't "smears". The people making them thought they were, but that just proved how out of touch they were.
ReplyDeleteIf they weren't smears, why aren't they true?
ReplyDeleteThere would have to be something dishonourable about them to be smears. Or at the very least something electorally damaging. There is neither.
ReplyDeleteAmericans want a "European-style social democracy", and they want a much more critical and sensible attitude to Israel. If either of these things were not the case, then Clinton would have been the nominee, or McCain the victor, or both.
We shall see whether or not they are true. In so doing, we shall see whether or not President Obama deserves to be re-nominated and re-elected, or instead deserves to be replaced with someone who really will deliver both a "European-style social democracy", and a much more critical and sensible attitude to Israel.
It was widely remarked at the time of the democratic primaries that Obama and Clinton had very similar policies. Didn't you spot that?
ReplyDeleteBy whom?
ReplyDeleteNot by the GOP or the most ardent Clintonites, it wasn't!
Nor by the most ardent Obama supporters, come to that.
Yeh, let's have more anti-semitism! Vote BPA! Vote for me, I mean David Lindsay, as PM!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, change the record. Didn't you see the result of American Presidential Election? That's what happens when people are given a proper choice.
ReplyDeleteKeep plugging this blog.
Do you really think Wall Street supported Obama because he was a Social Democrat?
ReplyDeleteThat's why Americans at large voted for him. Why else did they?
ReplyDeleteAs for Wall Street, it presumably had to make do with him in the absence of someone in favour of even more state spending, though still, like here, with apparently no government control.
