Andy Burnham’s abolition of VAT on domestic electricity is a Brexit benefit that would have been illegal if we had still been in the European Union. That is why it will not apply in Northern Ireland. In Great Britain, it may not save us very much, although every penny counts, but it beats Keir Starmer’s opening move, which was the withdrawal of the Winter Fuel Allowance from most pensioners.
And Darren, sweetie, you have just said that Starmer’s flagship policy of digital ID, for which you were responsible, had been uncosted all along. The VPN ban had already been dropped, while the ban on social media for under-16s, and the imposition of a curfew on the 16 and 17-year-olds whom you had wished to give the vote, have been rendered impossible by the abandonment of digital ID. No one wants to hear from the man who said in October that, “We have to build a New State and shut down the Legacy State, with digital ID making people’s experience of that New State fundamentally much better.”
This may have been one of the great anti-fascist coups.
