My goodness, but Telegraph Blogs was odd. And the oddest thing about it was that a major British national newspaper hosted it.
Take, for example, The Much Honoured Gerald Warner of Craigenmaddie, who used such a platform, and who was permitted to do so, to demand that the Queen recognise the peerages that had been created by the Stuart claimants in exile.
Oh, well, some dotty old Jacobite laird, where's the harm?
Except that he had been a Policy Adviser to Michael Forsyth as Secretary of State for Scotland. A real, live, serious, proselytising Jacobite.
Not that all Scottish Conservatives are like that. Far more of them are Orangemen.
The SNP is just as peculiar. Both main political parties in Scotland are as weird as anything in Northern Ireland, and the Government is in fact more dependent on one of them for its majority than it is on the DUP.
Moreover, another hung Parliament is coming. Therefore, we need our people to hold the balance of power in it.

It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post.
I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
Well worth keeping an eye on.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Who in England voted for rule by the strange factions that populate the political scenes in Scotland and Northern Ireland?
