A win by one vote is a win. A win by two to one is a triumph.
Until last week's resounding vote of confidence in Theresa May on the part of Conservative MPs, then those who forced that vote were never off the airwaves.
But now, they have disappeared. They never really mattered, and no one can any longer be bothered to pretend that they do. They used to be entertaining in small doses. But they are no longer even that.
Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. I will stand for this parliamentary seat of North West Durham, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign.
