This country stands on vast reserves of coal, yet stands on the brink of a national emergency due to a shortage of gas. Such are the fruits of privatisation, and of the destruction of the British coal industry.
Oh, and from where do you think that we buy that gas? There are many possible words to describe the country that keeps us warm in the snow, when we can be bothered to organise our own side of things properly. But even when money has to change hands, "enemy" is not one of those words.
Bring back gasometers - I always liked them. That is the problem; we used to have a reserve of six months.
