Testing Times Again

When Tony Blair simply announced that his party would support membership of the euro in principle, then Gordon Brown retaliated with five "tests" that were purely academic, since the whole point of them was to make it clear that Britain would never join the euro while there was breath in his body, or at least while he was still in office. Britain never did join the euro.

Today, Theresa May is announcing five "tests" for the deal withdrawing Britain from the European Union. They, too, are purely academic. Britain will not be leaving the European Union while there is breath in her body, or at least while she, or anyone favoured by those who favoured her, was still in office. That is, anyone with any realistic chance of ever leading her party.
