We Could Be Antiheroes

Fascinating.

"How David Bowie became the loathed adversary of a Soviet-era youth movement."

Truly, a vanished world.

Bowie named Major Tom after the music hall performer and circus artiste of his youth, Tom Major. He was John Major's father. Yes, really.

There is an alternative theory, about Major Tom Stafford, the Commander of Apollo 10.

But Apollo 10 was launched in May 1969, and Space Oddity was released, never mind written, in July 1969. That is far too tight.

In any case, Bowie probably even met Abraham Ball, otherwise Tom Major, who was a well-known Brixton figure.
