The Nation is the oldest continuously published magazine in the United States.
It has only ever endorsed two Presidential candidates.
Political prisoner, activist, journalist, hymn-writer, emerging thinktanker, aspiring novelist, "tribal elder", 2019 parliamentary candidate for North West Durham, Shadow Leader of the Opposition, "Speedboat", "The Cockroach", eagerly awaiting the second (or possibly third) attempt to murder me.
It is sad to watch a country that once prided itself on liberty (as epitomised by it's right to bear arms) turning to socialism at the very same time that even South America has just decisively rejected socialism at the ballot box, everywhere from Argentina to Venezuela.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a conversation a journalist friend of mine had with a European colleague as they watched the Berlin Wall come down and he remarked "Communism is finished." His colleague turned to him and said; "That's what you think; but the next communist country might be the United States."
At the time he thought it was a joke.
I know that story, and you weren't born.
