My relatives in the Western Cape absolutely insist on the
word "Coloured", with a capital C.
In the United States, the community that was previously
called "Colored People" decided that it wanted to be called "black" (historically worse than the n-word, as is still the case in certain corners of what was once the British Empire), then "African-American", and now "people of color", which is remarkably close to "Colored People".
A people that is confident in its identity does not change its name every 15 or 20 years.
