Donald Trump is not a politician. In the end, he will have done a grand total of nine years of politics, in the autumn of his days. Rather, he is a patriarch and a businessman, who looks at North Korea and sees the coal that his dynasty might supply to a dependent world deep into the twenty-second century. In like manner does he look at Britain and see our National Health Service. He wants it, not for "the Americans", but very specifically for the Trumps.
He has powerful backing here. He gave interviews to The Times and to The Sun, Theresa May has just called questions from The Times and from Sky News (which is still, in staffing terms, part of the family), and Trump has just announced that he will be meeting Michael Gove. Until yesterday, I always defended Rupert Murdoch, because talkRADIO gave a platform to George Galloway. But in this environment, it has ceased to do so. We can all see what is going on.
A new party will be registered in the coming days, even if I have to pay for it myself, ongoing lawfare or no ongoing lawfare. And I will stand for Parliament here at North West Durham even if I can raise only the deposit, which I could do by going pretty overdrawn, although that was not how I was brought up. I would still prefer to raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign, but I am no longer making my candidacy conditional on having done so. In any event, please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
