Such Has Been The Patient Sufferance

The out of her depth Amber Rudd has authorised the extradition of Lauri Love because she knows that the Americans would otherwise have stopped asking for him.

If Barack Obama had pardoned Hillary Clinton, and it is difficult to see how he could not, then Donald Trump ought to pardon Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning and Julian Assange, never mind call off any chasing of small fry from Obama's operations.

I am amazed that the Federal Reserve, the US Army, the Missile Defense Agency and NASA are prepared to admit in public that they were hacked by Lauri Love.

But even if there ought to be any extradition at all to the barbaric American penal system, and that is a highly questionable point, then there ought certainly to be no extradition of anyone from the United Kingdom to any jurisdiction with less than equal reciprocation.

One Nation, with an equal emphasis on the One and on the Nation.

  1. The barbaric American penal system?

You mean the only penal system in the West where they still have some semblance of punishment, unlike ours, where the prisoners run the prisons and riot when they don't get their own way (as they did last week).

    1. If I were you, I wouldn't mention the prison riots. There'll be time enough for that very, very soon. Then Liz Truss really will hit the fan.

    2. Cometh the hour, cometh your mate, Richard Burgon. Shadowing Truss is the gift that keeps on giving.

  2. barbaric American penal system

An accurate description, I think. A crime that over here might get you a year or two at most, less when parole is taken into consideration, over there can get you 99 years or "120 years to life" as they love to describe it - just in case you morph into Methuselah and live to be 900 years old.

And it was the Bill Clinton administration that brought in the "three strikes" policy whereby sad, inadequate petty offenders were taken off the streets. I read about one guy with a long record of minor non violent crimes, stole a piece of pizza from a baby. Antisocial, certainly, but hardly Jack the Ripper. Under the three strikes law, he was sentenced to life without parole.

How America can call itself a "civilised country" is beyond me.
