Based on his Twitter in the last few minutes, it does look as if UKIP's only MP is going to vote for war.
Well, of course.
Political prisoner, activist, journalist, hymn-writer, emerging thinktanker, aspiring novelist, "tribal elder", 2019 parliamentary candidate for North West Durham, Shadow Leader of the Opposition, "Speedboat", "The Cockroach", eagerly awaiting the second (or possibly third) attempt to murder me.
He's defying his party leader-as are the many Labour MP's who are going to join him.
ReplyDeleteBut do we know that? John Bickley told Newsnight last week that he would vote however his senior, Douglas Carswell, told him.
DeleteIf you showed the Ukip war record to almost any Ukip voter without telling him what it was, he would scream "Islamo-Maoist" or some such thing. They have no idea what they are voting for. Until today maybe, when their only MP votes for war.
DeleteWill there be another byelection when he defects back? Or is this war now Ukip policy? He has never actually voted against one, unlike Reckless who voted against bombing Isil in Iraq.
ReplyDeleteWe all know where the huge majority of votes against this war are going to come from and where the huge majority of votes in favour are going to come from. The split between the parties will be clear, it already is. The problem will be the how many of the relatively few Labour rebels were front benchers.
No wonder Cameron insisted on a short debate, it is slipping away from the Labour hawks, such as they are. Will the ashen faced Tom Watson go through with voting for this war? A two day debate would have ended in a Government defeat.
The DUP are in for war this time, unlike in 2013. Any news on Sylvia Hermon?
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to find out about her, among others.
