I told you so.
Over, and over, and over again.
Carswell's vastly older, and far more broadly-based, former party had enough trouble trying to accommodate him. His present one never stood a chance.
He will set up his own party first. But he will re-join his original one eventually, and possibly even in this Parliament.
In the meantime, notice that next year's referendum is going to be on Britain's relationship with the EU, not membership of it.
Keep an eye on that one. Someone has to. And it certainly isn't going to be UKIP.
The insurgency in British politics turned out to be somewhere else altogether.
ReplyDeleteYou called it right that Clacton would be the only Ukip seat, and you have been saying ever since Carswell defected that Ukip wasn't big enough for him and Farage, one of them would have to go.
