I do wonder what I ever saw in Andy Burnham.
But he and Keir Starmer are off the leash only until such time as Jeremy Corbyn declares the final Investigatory Powers Bill to be unacceptable.
He will.
Political prisoner, activist, journalist, hymn-writer, emerging thinktanker, aspiring novelist, "tribal elder", 2019 parliamentary candidate for North West Durham, Shadow Leader of the Opposition, "Speedboat", "The Cockroach", eagerly awaiting the second (or possibly third) attempt to murder me.
No one else in Parliament beats Jeremy's record of opposition to this kind of thing. People like John McDonnell and Diane Abbott are about as good, a few Tories like David Davis, if he still has a party, are pretty good. But no one is better than Jeremy. Did you see Nick Clegg's article? The Guardian had to close the comments. The Lib Dems are truly finished, they won't even oppose this.
ReplyDeleteClegg is no longer their Leader. But we shall see.
DeleteTom Watson opposed DRIP. It went beyond the usual very strong opposition of the Labour Left to everything like this, although that, too, was of course there.
Burnham and Starmer will be reined in. Something, anything, in the final Bill will be declared unacceptable.
