Cameron EU Blah Blah Blah

There are damp squibs, and then there is this.

He might even hold the referendum next year: "Do you want my proposed terms, such as they are, or do you want out, bearing in mind that the whole Government would resign on the spot (in a fixed-term Parliament these days) if you chose the latter option?"

We all know what the result of that would be. And that would be taken as his mandate for whatever, if anything, he eventually brought back. If the Prime Minister says something like that, then it is so. There would be absolutely no question of a second referendum.

Nothing about Cameron's EU speech today, which everyone else in Europe understood to be intended purely for a domestic audience, is worth discussing for one second.
