A Lesson Learned

Durham County Council is inflicting massive pay cuts on 2,700 school support staff, which will take some of them below the minimum wage.

When Jim McMahon becomes the MP for Oldham West and Royton, then there will be vacancies for the Leadership of the Labour Group on the Local Government Association, and for one of the two local government seats on the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party.

Several names are being mooted, two of them in this part of the country, and one directly connected to this little piece of spite. People think that it is a national measure. It is not.

The merry implementation of austerity by Labour Councils, perhaps especially here in the North East, is one of the biggest political scandals in Britain today. Labour local government needs an enema.
