There'll Always Be An England?

Really? By 10pm, it was Item Four. By 11pm, it was one of those "other news" stories rushed through so that Newsnight can move onto its third really big one of the night. Other than the redoubtable Henry Porter over on Comment is Free, the blogs that should be having fits are showing no sign of even being aware of it, although with any luck it will make Peter Hitchens's column on Sunday.

To what do I refer? To the fact that, as of yesterday, the England that had existed for as long as there had been an England, since even Magna Carta merely reasserted liberties that were axiomatically stated to be immemorial even then, has ceased to exist.
