Blood and Treasure

We don’t fight heroin in Britain, so why bother fighting it in Afghanistan? And we vigorously support the Wahhabi (and Nazi) narco-state through which Afghan heroin is trafficked into Europe.

Of course, this is only the latest lame excuse for this ghastly, pointless, unwinnable war. Initially, it was something to do with the attacks on America on 11th September 2001 by the Saudi paymasters of the Bushes and the Clintons.

Then there was something about forcing Pashtun women to wear heaven knows what in place of the only outdoor garment of which they have any concept, as if dress codes were this or any other country’s strategic interests.

And now this.

  1. Where is the evidence that the Saudis were behind 9/11?

The KLA are an Albanian-backed secular Marxist terrorist group. They are not Wahhabite or Nazi. If they had been rightwing it would have been very difficult for the Blair, Clinton and Schroeder governments to support them politically.

The main cause of Operation Enduring Freedom originally was to get rid of the militant training camps in Afghanistan. The justification was that these were terrorist training camps.

The problem with this is that it's not clear that they were terrorist training camps. They may simply have been traing militants to fight the Mujahideen in the north. The Taliban for their part condemned 9/11 and promised to hand over Osama bin Laden if the American government could give them evidence that he was behind the attacks.

Most of the bo9mbers were Saudi, for a start. None was Afghan. Or Iraqi. Or Iranian. Or North Korean.

Oh, yes they are. But yes, they also have Maoist roots around Enver Hoxha. Add in the heroin, and they are the point at which all the main strands of terrorism meet.

    Define "right-wing".

But what you say about Afghanistan is mostly correct.
