The Rule of Law

I have two first cousins, who are also thus related to each other, of whom one comes off staunchly pro-Bush and pro-Palin stock in Texas, while the other is now a Latina immigrant in Miami. But the latter is perfectly legal. And that is the point. If illegal immigrants are to be counted, simply because they are there, in the census, not merely for determining who is there, but for allocating seats in the House of Representatives (and thus also votes in the Electoral College), then America will have ceased to be any sort of res publica.
