Brown’s National Service

Excellent idea.

There should be universal and compulsory – non-military, but uniformed, ranked and barracked – National Service between secondary education and tertiary education or training.

Social mixing. Good works. Discipline. And no one going to university without having lived just that little bit, making them immune to Marxism, or anarcho-capitalism, or the marriage of the two in New Labour and the rest of neoconservatism, or any other such rubbish.

  1. It wont of course work.
Rather like Browns attempts to celebrate Britishness by bringing people together by flying British flags in gardens......just like in USA.......or Belfast (where it rather remarkably has not brought people together). Indeed British policy has been to recognise two nationalities in Belfast.
I cant actually see too many people signing up to "national (sic) service in Crossmaglen......or indeed Carrickfergus.
    Absolute non starter.
All designed to reassure English people that Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling are not Scottish

  2. Oh, if he did s I set out tehn it would work.

In fact, I think that the English rather like the very middle-class Scottishness of Brown and Darling. England is full of such doctors and bank managers.
