Zimbabwe

Morgan Tsvangari and all other concerned Zimbabweans should declare right now their allegiance to "Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of Zimbabwe and of her other Realms and Territories", followed by her lawful heirs and successors for ever, and their appeal to all Her Majesty's other loyal subjects to come to their aid.

Her Majesty would not have to do anything. That is the point: this would come from within Zimbabwe, and would place moral and political obligations on governments and people in 16 sovereign states (only four of them predominantly, and none entirely, white), and in numerous other territories besides, not only in these islands, but also in the Americas and in the Pacific.

So not only would this rescue the basket case of Africa and make it once more the bread basket, but it would also constitute a formal tie between Africa and her diaspora in the Caribbean. God Save The African Queen!

  1. All that such a stance would achieve would be an overwhelming propaganda coup for Mugabe, who has been alleging that Tsvangirai has been in the pocket (and on the payroll) of the UK for years, and that the reason for the current crisis is primarily because of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by a heartless and racist Britain.

At the moment, this is obviously bollocks - so what on earth would Tsvangirai gain by raising the possibility that it might not be?

  2. The MDC has indeed been funded by British parties for years. There is no secret about that, and the MDC still won.

The point of this is that it would an initiative from within Zimbabwe. Where people clearly want closer ties to Britain, anyway. They elected an overtly British-funded party, after all.
