Radio One’s commercial competitors say that its presenters are now too old and that most of the music could now just as easily be heard on Radio Two.
So perhaps it is time to bring back Smashy and Nicey, arguably the only satire that has ever achieved anything. But then the likes of Chris Moyles might migrate, as people like Steve Wright did, to Radio Two. And we wouldn’t want that.
Does anyone still listen to Radio One? Just why does the BBC use public money purely to replicate the commercial sector like this, though not for anyone to listen to?

Why? Cos they've got it. Anyway they probably think Radio 1 is "edgy".
ReplyDeleteDo they? Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross were on Radio Two.
ReplyDeleteIt is donkey's years since I heard Radio One, but I suspect that it is the broadcasting equivalent of a teacher at a school disco.
I didn't mean it is edgy just that the BBC don't know any better. In my opinion & more importantly in the opinion of about 70 countries worldwide who buy it & don't buy Ross's show, the only really edgy BBC comedy is Clarkson'e Top Gear.
ReplyDeleteActually probably somebody in the BBC does know this since, though they keep doing stories about how politically incorrect he is, they never cancel him.
