"Vitae"? What "Vitae"?

They’ve all been saying this welfare thing since the Year Dot. Aeons ago, I remember a Private Eye front page headed “Major’s Workfare Brainwave”, with the then Prime Minister’s speech bubble reading “If you don’t have a job, you won’t be able to get the dole”.

Even today’s proposal will not come into effect “before 2011”. In other words, never. And you would apparently meet their requirements merely by updating your CV.

So I am not only going to do the seasonal competition that is today’s little light diversion: which specific illness or disability should be visited upon James Purnell, and why?

I am also asking about James Purnell’s CV: posh school, automatic place at Oxford accordingly, baby-sitter for the Blairs, MP (since last week) accordingly, Cabinet Minister. Other than his present job under a Prime Minister of either party (as he has been publicly promised), for what position does this dazzling resumé qualify Purnell, and why?

  1. God no it's already in and working, I have seen a number of people who are asking how do they appeal. The 2011 are for people like myself long term sick, but anyone who is claiming benefits less then three years will be called in to the New ESA at anytime, some I know have already been in, each one has been told they are fit to work each has appealed.

What this is about is not getting people back to work because we have known for years we have areas of the country which has no work. It's about reducing my benefits from £128 a week to £60. Thats why the retraining could be updating a CV because they know you have no chance.

But a real serious worry is that people who go through the new work based test if they pass this able to work, the Disability living allowance will be reviewed as well.

The idea now being put around is that the council would return to the old 1970 in which disabled people were given jobs within the NHS or DWP or council your job would be in fact sod all, you get paid but would be expected to sit in a council van or make tea or things which morons can do.

But if you think this is not serious boy your wrong, it's about removing the means tested income support which will affect many

  2. Why does James Purnell look like a trainee estate agent?

  3. He wouldn't exactly do well as one, though, would he?
