Russia and Libya

I can understand why Libya wants to get in with Russia. But why is Russia giving Libya the time of day?

The champion of national sovereignty and identity against European federalism, American military-industrial hegemony and global capital should not be associating with the regime that is trying to blackmail one of the last truly self-governing and self-respecting countries in Europe and the world, Switzerland.

Nor should the bulwark of the Biblical-Classical synthesis in Christ and His Church that is the true Western civilisation be making herself with the country where, for all the quite superficial Italian influences on urban or elite culture, at least one third of the population nevertheless adheres to the Sanusi synthesis of Wahhabism and popular Sufism.

But let us be clear that the Lockerbie bombing was orchestrated, not by Libya, but by Syria. However, following Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait, we needed Syria on side. So we blamed Libya instead.

Then our self-inflicted dependence on any old despot’s oil, for want of the real nuclear deterrent that is civil nuclear power, eventually compelled us to suck up to Gadaffi. We couldn’t admit that we’d made up the whole thing about him and Lockerbie. So we connived with him to put an innocent man behind bars, and our bars at that. But now he’s going to get justice, it seems. In which case, will anyone else...?

As for any discontinued Libyan WMD programme, there never was one, just as there never was one in Iraq, and just as there is not one in Iran. Gadaffi and his dependents who run the West on his oil decided to pretend to have had such a programme, but to have given up on it, in order to provide the excuse for bringing their cosy relationship into the open. He is a good boy, unlike that naughty Saddam Hussein.

Isn’t he?

  1. In the 1980s Libya and Russia were the World's two prinicple sponsors of terrorism.

    Some things just don't change.

  2. The Lockerbie frame-up is coming to its conclusion.

And the greatest act of terrorism of late has been 8/8, Russia's 9/11.
