Panorama

It's been given the Michael Grade Doctor Who treatment: cut to half an hour and put up against Coronation Street. Why?

  1. Perhaps to try to get more viewers - it's peak time.

  2. It's up against Corrie.

Grade used that trick to get rid of Doctor Who. Someone in the Beeb clearly wants rid of Panorama. Why?

And why is it on before the watershed? It should have an hour-long slot, beginning at 9pm. Then adult subjects could recive full coverage and discussion.

  3. Well, I used to watch Doctor Who back then. It was a good slot. Never liked Corrie.

How many viewers does Panorama get in the new slot compared to the old slot?

  4. It's a meaningless comparison. The most recent slot was in the dead of night (or it certainly always felt that way).

But time was when the current affairs flagships, regardless of channel, were on in adult primetime, at a proper length, and scheduled in such a way as to be the television event of the evening.

Time was when there were only four channels, and there could be such a thing as "the television event of the evening". Those days are gone.

  6. Rubbish.

Nothing on TMF or whatever has the reach of, say, Corrie or EastEnders, or certain comedies and dramas, among other things.

  7. Punishment for Panorama's occasional critical nature re: neo-cons, Iraq War.

Whatever happened to World In Action? It was filleted into Tonight with Trevor MacDonald and lost it's edge.

  8. Huh? If Panorama was put on hiatus for 18 months I wouldn't complain. The fact that people like you imagine that Corrie will be stealing viewers from it only goes to show how low Panorama's reputation has already fallen.

Back to the Sunday-night graveyard slot?

    Indeed.
