One of my cellmates was from Peterlee, where he was recently murdered. His name was Dean Fishwick, and his death made it onto to Look North. But the panel on Question Time recalled Peter Kay in Phoenix Nights, or Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove, or Alec Guinness in Kind Hearts and Coronets. Except that those characters, though played by the same actor, could easily be told apart.
All right, I’ll give you Kevin Maguire, with whose late cousin I used to go to Mass, just as I used to go to Mass with Dean. But otherwise, Question Time went to Grahame Morris’s constituency and to Darren Grimes’s county, yet that was the only panel that could be assembled? Annabel Denham is on everything. You probably cannot travel 20 miles in Britain without some change in the accent. You certainly cannot travel 30. Yet four out of five panellists had the same accent as each other and the presenter. It was not an East Durham accent.
Meanwhile, it was all kicking off on Newsnight, with Caroline Lucas not holding back. Andrew Feinstein and the Greens took 29.3 per cent between them at Holborn and St Pancras last time. Any less than that this time, and Zack Polanski should resign.
