Aux Armes, Citoyens?

Bloody hell, it’s cold. Oh, to be in Paris. “The bourgeoisie of the world, which looks complacently upon the wholesale massacre after battle, is convulsed by horror at the desecration of brick and mortar.” And which brick or mortar? Those rightly bemoaning the damage to the Hôtel de Ville at Limoges, a manifestation of the Third Republic, have shed no tears for the desecrated Christian holy sites of Palestine, Lebanon and Syria. Much less have they wept for the schoolgirls of Minab.

The Left, you say? Well, it does have form for this sort of thing in France. But who doesn’t? October is the month of 13 Vendémiaire. And the last riots in Britain were firmly on the Right, being largely centred on Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, who, if his latest legal costs were indeed being paid by Elon Musk, needs to account for his previous crowdfunding of them. Based on his appearance on recent hours, that money went straight up his nose. An additional charge of fraud would seem to be in order. Meanwhile, note that the British Right copied, if rather comically, the attempted revival of the spirit of Boulangism and Poujadism in the summer of 2000, yet the British Left shows no sign of seeking to imitate the rediscovery of 1789, 1848 and 1968.
