Tough

"And nobody is tougher than Margaret Thatcher," exclaimed Jacob Rees-Mogg as he sought to articulate his incredulity that Theresa May had still not resigned.

Well, clearly, someone is indeed tougher than Margaret Thatcher.

Theresa May is still supported by two thirds of Conservative MPs, by the CBI, and by the Daily Mail.

Do not bet against her contesting the next General Election as Leader after all. But bet the farm against Jacob Rees-Mogg's doing so.

Regardless of who led either main party, there is going to be another hung Parliament, because Britain is now that country. We need our people to hold the balance of power.

I will stand for this parliamentary seat of North West Durham, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign.

By common consent, Labour, the Conservatives and I are each on 30 per cent support, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post.

  1. She’s supported only by those on her payroll (PPs’s, Ministers etc). Of the independent backbenchers the majority (117) voted her out.

Even so, she had to pledge to quit before the next election just to stay on,

    1. She probably didn't have to, and she might not after all. She will only go in favour of a successor acceptable to her.

The Right has been badly beaten. Like its Labour counterpart, it is overrepresented among MPs compared to the party in the country, compared to that party's vote, and compared to the electorate at large.

As surely as right-wing Labour MPs, right-wing Conservative MPs, even for safe seats, had better pray for a General Election to come too soon for the deselection process to kick in. Nothing else will now save them from their own activists and voters.
