"After The Coalition"

Such is apparently the title of a volume to appear later in the year, with contributions from various supposedly dazzling, yet for some reason decidely obscure members of the 2010 Conservative intake who "lean towards Thatcherism and Euroscepticism" and are preparing for the post-Cameron "Age of Boris".

You cannot lean towards both Thatcherism and Euroscepticism. And that anyone seriously suggests Boris Johnson as a future Leader indicates just how bankrupt the Conservative Party now is. He can get away with being Mayor of London because it is not a proper job. London is really run by central government quangos and by the Borough Councils. Just as well, too.

This book might not actually appear in print until "After The Coalition". But whenever that time comes, it will mean three or four terms in Opposition, during which these people, if they are really anything remotely approaching as brilliant as they are supposed to be, will find something better to do, while being a Tory MP will once again become nothing more than a way of filling up the time before inheriting most of the land in any sort of constituency that might still be returning such a figure.

The characters behind this are a lot sharper than the average bear (or blogger).

  2. Really? Then how come no one has ever heard of them, a year after they got in? Or ever will, come to that.

As I said, if they are that good, then they will find something better to do after the next Election, and the two, three or four after that.

Unless they have, as some people do have, a particular vocation to the work of the awkward squad backbencher. I can't see it. Can you?
