Even under the present circumstances, the end of rail franchising ought to be enormous news.
Including high speed rail, but not restricted to it, the renationalised rail service should be the backbone of a rebuilt network of public transport, free at the point of use, and extending to every village. The approval of the House of Commons should be required for any increase in public transport fares.
If today has happened, and it has, then why should this not happen, with enough political pressure? Please give generously.
