The Elephant In The Room

The filling of this vacancy on the Supreme Court is no longer anything to do with Donald Trump, who has done his bit.

The Republicans in the Senate would never confirm any nominee who had not assured them that she would leave in place Roe v. Wade, Doe v. Bolton, and Obergefell v. Hodges

They got that out of Brett Kavanaugh. And they will get it out of Amy Coney Barrett, who likewise holds that her religious and philosophical beliefs should have no bearing on her rulings.

That novel and un-Catholic view is the root of the problem, and it has no parallel on the other side. It is also political defeatism. It does not say, "When we get in, then we'll do what we want." It says only, "You can't do that." But they can. They do. And they will.

Roe v. WadeDoe v. Bolton, and Obergefell v. Hodges: they will get that triple assurance out of Coney Barrett. Or she will be refused confirmation. By the Republicans.
