Not A Priti Prospect

What is it with Tony Abbott? Briefly Prime Minister of Australia until his own party threw him out, he has since enthralled first David Cameron and then Boris Johnson, each of whom is electorally a far more successful politician. And now, he appears to be running the Home Office, as I suppose that someone does have to do.

Harebrained schemes to send asylum seekers to Saint Helena and Ascension Island will obviously come to nothing. But the sort of people to whom they had appealed will then be moved to, well, what, exactly? Make Priti Patel Leader?

We see today that that would in practice hand the Leadership and the Premiership to Abbott, and to whoever was behind Abbott. It would not, however, result in the transportation of asylum seekers to Saint Helena and Ascension Island. That is simply never going to happen.
