Statute of Limitations

Johnny Mercer is not the sharpest tool in the box, but even he will have noticed that, although the Sinn Féin MP do not take their seats in the House of Commons itself, they are very much around the place, pursuing constituency issues and so on. They have a huge office just above the main entrance.

It was ever thus. Jeremy Corbyn never "invited" Gerry Adams to the Palace of Westminster. As the MP for Belfast West, he simply walked in, as he had done many times in the past, and as he was to do many times in the future.

Therefore, Theresa May is taking no chances that one day, already very much onsite, they might decide that, oh, well, the Oath doesn't really mean anything, numerous republicans, Marxists and Bernardette Devlins have taken it in past, and hey, ho, these are exceptional times. So what Sinn Féin wants, Sinn Féin gets, as surely as the DUP.

Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post. I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
