Thou Shalt Not Steel

If you are wondering how EU State Aid rules allowed us to nationalise the banks, but do not allow us to nationalise a steel company that last had a market value of one pound, even before the people who bought it for that pound made it go bust, then you are starting to see the real point of the EU, and specifically of the Customs Union in which both main parties now openly wish to keep us.

Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post. I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.

  1. The real point of the EU is to turn Europe into a single political superstate. It’s origins lie in the aftermath of the Battle of Verdun (in which Chancellor Kohl and Jean Monet’s parents fought on opposite sides).

I'm not surprised. I cannot imagine that you have any idea that steel is made at all, still less how, where, or by whom.

  2. The European Coal and Steel Community was founded because coal and steel were the means by which artillery was built and transported to the frontline of Verdun.

And the French and Germans decided to place both under a supranational authority so there would never be another war, ? the origins of the EU idea that nationalism and nations must be abolished to abolish war).

You’d have to know some history to know that. The Left doesn’t know any history which is why it supports the EU, not knowing what it is.
