Hold Your Peace

From the Official Opposition or anyone else, there has still been nothing on the floor of the House of Commons about the OPCW's leaked report into Douma, which showed that the basis for our bombing of Syria was totally false and had been staged for the purpose.

But dear old John Woodcock, who is now beyond even self-parody and who is certain to come third or below if he contested his seat again next time, stood up at Prime Minister's Questions to peddle the same pernicious fiction about Idlib. He got away with it, too.

In a later answer, Theresa May referred to Britain's "deep security relationship" with the United States as "keeping the peace throughout the world". What peace is that? If it is not the EU that supposedly keeps a peace that no one can see, then it is the various iterations of the "alliance" with the United States. Within both of them, this country has in fact been at war continuously and on several fronts since before some of tomorrow's voters were born.

Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post. I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign.
