Priti Patel made the Foreign Office aware of her trip to Israel "while it was underway", but not before she went. She had 12 meetings, including one with Benjamin Netanyahu, in the course of this "family holiday".
No British officials were present, and no minutes were taken, or so we are expected to believe; it is hard to see which would be worse, that that were the truth, or that it were not. Either she must resign, or there is no point having either a Ministerial Code or a Foreign Office.
And the question now demands to be asked frankly: how can we governed by a party the Leadership of which is clearly in the gift of a foreign power, court to which must be paid, on its own territory, by any aspirant to that Leadership?
