Back On Track

I have been sent the following:

On Tuesday a regional delegation has met with Transport Minister Theresa Villiers and her advisors to again press the case for the Hitachi plan to bring train jobs to the North East. We emphasised the jobs that would be created, the businesses that would benefit and the additional taxes that would be generated and welfare bill saved from creating and safeguarding over 800 direct manufacturing jobs and over 750 further jobs in the supply chain.

Today the Northern Echo reports that civil servants are now recommending that the Hitachi proposal should go ahead - though the decision still has to be taken by Phillip Hammond the Secretary of State for Transport. Read the full story here.

It is very encouraging to know that we are so close, but until the formal decision is taken by the Government to approve the plan then we will not let up with our campaigning and lobbying. This campaign has been a great team effort and our collective arguments and pressure is making a difference.

Thanks for your support of this vital campaign for the North East.
