Few MPs come out of the current revelations terribly well.
But two who do are Douglas Carswell and Kelvin Hopkins.
Carswell is a member of the “extremist” Cornerstone Group of morally and socially conservative, diehard Eurosceptical Tory MPs, by no means all of whom are economic neoliberals or geopolitical neoconservatives, and several of whom have long histories as outspoken critics of either or both.
And Hopkins is member of the “extremist” Campaign Group of economically left-wing and duly Eurosceptical Labour MPs (although it has come to something when figures such as Austin Mitchell and Bob Marshall-Andrews must find refuge is something set up by those who could not stomach the Tribune MPs’ abstentions that gave the Deputy Leadership to Denis Healey instead of Tony Benn), by no means all of whom are moral or social liberals, and several of whom have long histories as outspoken critics of such attitudes.
Aren’t you glad that we are instead offered three parties that are all on “the centre ground”?
