Yes, art is important.
But no one is suggesting that this not remotely Scottish or British painting would be defaced or destroyed if it went elsewhere, nor even that it would be kept from public view.
If it is not displayed in Scotland, then it will still be displayed elsewhere.
But if the arbitrarily chosen fifty million pounds is not spent on various other projects, then those projects will not happen.
Alas, this is no time for Titian.

Where are Jon and Break Dancing Jesus, to tell us all they know about Titian?
ReplyDeleteYou have already read everything that they know about Titian.
ReplyDeleteTell us about Titian, David! No cheating with Google or Wikipedia.
ReplyDeleteOh, where to begin?
ReplyDeleteFifteenth/sixteenth century, rather long-lived, pre-eminent in the Venetian School, staggeringly versatile, best-known (I suppose) for 'The Assumption of the Virgin' with its three tiers and its dazzling colours, legendary perfectionist (especially in later life)...
There's a limit to how much one can write about something like this in the comments on a blog post.
The Wikipedia entry is very good and it has pictures.
ReplyDeleteWho could ask for anything more?
ReplyDeleteHave you seen it?
ReplyDeleteNot yet, but I am now going to give it a look, certainly.
ReplyDeleteCareful, BDJ will set his brother-in-law on you again.
ReplyDeleteNot any more, he won't. He wouldn't dare.
ReplyDeleteOf course it has pictures. He was a painter.
ReplyDeleteAs I said, who could ask for anything more?
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, it is very good.
Is this the year when we finally get rid of BDJ?
ReplyDeleteI'll work with you if you'll work with me.
ReplyDeleteNow, back on topic, please.
