West Virginia and Massachusetts both look likely to require new Democratic Senators pretty soon. These will be yet further opportunities to re-build bridges to those who voted in Obama and the Democratic majorities in both Houses, and who can vote them out just as easily.
That re-building can be done by appointing and seating, or by nominating and securing the election of, economically populist (i.e., economically patriotic), morally and socially conservative foreign policy realists.
