You Can't Keep Apart What You Can't Tell Apart

To our lords and masters, there is no difference whatever between the respectable working class and the real-life version of the characters from Shameless.

So council tenants are to lose security of tenure (which, with subsidised rent, is the whole point of council housing) so that a law-abiding, tax-paying plumber and his family can be evicted in favour of - and the law-abiding, tax-paying electrician and his family next door can be delighted by the addition of - some clan or commune of knife-wielding junkies on the game.

After all, they are all the same.

Aren't they?

  1. No they are not the same!

I have been a council tenant for 11 years and now a Housing Association tenant. I am also an active member of my Tenants' Association and we have been horrified by the constant stream of "Shameless" characters and single teenage mothers etc. that have been housed on our estate.

No wonder our estates are all fast becoming sink estates. Whatever happened to social housing for the "Hard working poor and the respectable working classes!"

Do get in touch (davidaslindsay@hotmail.com), and let's do something about it.
